Civil Rights in Public Schools

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently released the latest report on civil rights data for all public schools in the country for 2011-2012. For the first time ever, the Civil Rights Data Collection database allows you to view school-, district-, and state-level reports on racial disparities in the public education system.

For a summary of key findings, check out the Department of Education’s press release. To explore data for Westchester schools or districts, visit the searchable database. You can also expect to see a future blog post on Children By The Numbers as we investigate some interesting aspects of the data set.

The Civil Rights Data Collection database provides school data by race and ethnicity such as:

  • Demographics
  • Early Childhood and Preschool Enrollment
  • Discipline, Suspensions, Harassment and Bullying
  • Advanced Math / Science Course Offerings and Enrollment
  • Advanced Placement, SAT, and ACT Participation
  • School Expenditures
