WCA Selected for Reconnecting Youth Campaign’s Advocacy Academy

WCA is thrilled to announce that we have been selected to join this year’s founding cohort of the Reconnecting Youth Campaign’s Advocacy Academy.

The Advocacy Academy is a 12 month long set of online trainings and activities that are designed to help local and state Opportunity Youth organizations become great advocates for both the Reconnecting Youth Campaign and for any local or state campaigns that ignite their passions. As founders, we will play a special role in helping to inform and “co-construct” the Advocacy Academy.

Across the U.S., there are more than 4.9 million 16- to 24-year-olds who have been separated from pathways to productive adulthood. They are known as “Opportunity Youth” because they seek opportunities to provide for themselves and their families, and they represent an untapped source of talent for the local workforce and economy. Only 350,000 currently receive supports and services to help them reconnect to pathways for economic mobility.

Over the next 12 months, we will be working with our cohort to show Congress and key decision-makers why it is crucial to in America’s future by funding 1 million bridges to meaningful education, training, service and employment opportunities each year for opportunity youth.

The Reconnecting Youth Campaign is an initiative from SparkActionand the Forum for Youth Investment.
