This Martin Luther King Jr. weekend will kick off a Week of Action for Raise the Age (January 13th -22nd ) by local Westchester County clergy leaders and the communities they lead.
Last year, over 35 clergy members signed on to a letter supporting Raise the Age legislation. We held a press conference on the steps of White Plains Presbyterian Church and the letter was sent to Governor Cuomo, Majority Leader Flanagan and Speaker Heastie. Unfortunately, Raise the Age legislation did not pass last year. However, our dedicated clergy members have stayed vigilant in the fight to ensure that it will be passed this year.
Starting this weekend, numerous clergy leaders have agreed to encourage their communities to take part in one or more activities. They will range from letter writing campaigns to elected officials, focusing on Raise the Age in their sermons or lectures, and including information about Raise the Age in their bulletins and newsletters. WCA created a toolkit to help clergy leaders take action next week.
