Marian Wright Edelman to Deliver Davis Advocacy Lecture

Marian Wright Edelman, award-winning advocate, lawyer and author, and Founder and President of the Children’s Defense Fund, will deliver the Kathryn Wasserman Davis Child Advocacy Lecture at Westchester Children’s Association’s 2014 Advocacy Breakfast. Her talk is titled “The Power is in Our Hands: Building a Better Future for Westchester’s Children.” The event will be held on Wednesday, March 12 from 8-10 am at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, New York. Marian Wright Edelman, Founder and President of the Children’s Defense Fund, has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life. A graduate of Spelman College and Yale Law School, Edelman was the first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar and directed the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund office in Jackson, Mississippi. She has received over a hundred honorary degrees and many awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, the Heinz Award, a MacArthur Foundation Prize Fellowship, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, and the Robert F. The Kathryn Wasserman Davis Child Advocacy Lecture is given at WCA’s annual Advocacy Breakfast by outstanding national speakers on timely and important children’s issues. The lectures are supported by an endowment gift from Dr. Davis.
