“For it is our hope that implores us, at our uncompromising core,
To keep rising up for an earth more than worth fighting for.”

How Did Kids and Youth Fare in the NY State Budget?
|
|
The chart below assesses how the enacted state budget and end of legislative session aligns with our priorities, which are focused on enhancing the well-being of children, youth, and families across New York State. While we recognize and celebrate certain accomplishments, it is crucial to acknowledge that there remains ongoing advocacy efforts to fully address the needs of New York’s children and families.
WCA remains committed to advocating for comprehensive and equitable policies that prioritize the well-being of all children, leaving no one behind. By addressing the ongoing challenges and advocating for effective policies, we strive to create a future where all children in New York state have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed.
THANK YOU to those who reached out to their state officials through our alerts and social media, and on their own!!

HOMELESSNESS:
An update on WCA’s Eviction Court Watcher Program
|
|
Our primary goal in this initiative is to acquire information that will foster fairness in evictions and inform advocacy efforts aimed at preventing homelessness.
Earlier this month, the first volunteers for WCA’s Eviction Court Watcher Program were launched into county court rooms. With support from the Jandon Foundation, WCA and our nonprofit partners (Legal Services of Hudson Valley and Neighbors Link) provided comprehensive training to our first cohort of dedicated volunteers on the dynamics of landlord/tenant court and cultural competency to prepare them for observing court hearings.
The participation of our volunteers is instrumental in providing us with valuable insights. By closely observing court proceedings with a keen focus on equity and fairness, our volunteers will gather firsthand information that can help ensure a more just system within eviction courts. Their observations and documentation of various aspects of the proceedings will serve as a powerful tool in shaping our advocacy efforts, particularly in the realm of preventing child and youth homelessness. Click the bottom button on the left to read the LoHud article about our efforts.
Please note, we are not currently accepting new volunteers. Stay tuned for notification here when that changes and for our upcoming Ground Truthing podcast episode. In this episode a volunteer will share her firsthand experience and insights since joining our Court Watching program.
