On October 22, 2024, WCA released the 2024 Mental Health Fact Sheet. This report which pulls various sources to understand the current state of Children’s Mental Health in Westchester County. It is published with support of the Westchester County Board of Legislators.
In August 2024, The New York Times wrote about a report published in the scientific journal The Lancet Psychiatry. In this report, The Lancet Psychiatry Commission on Youth Mental Health, a global consortium of world-leading psychiatrists, psychologists, academics, and young people made this statement:
“Mental health… which has been the leading health and social issue impacting the lives and futures of young people for decades has entered a dangerous phase. Environmental, social, economic, political or technological changes in the past two decades have harmed the mental health of young people and increased mental ill health among them. “
This quote is featured prominently in our report alongside other US, New York and county data regarding children’s mental health it elevates the need to continue to bring this work to forefront and work together to find solutions.
