On June 4th, 2025, Westchester Children’s Association celebrated a legacy of impact, that of our own Executive Director, Allison Lake. After over 25 years of service to the county, Allison has decided to retire, to explore new ways to continue her advocacy work, and to leave WCA in the hands of a new generation. Such an impactful career warranted a celebration! And, so, nearly 175 guests gathered at the Harrison Meadows Country Club’s ballroom and outdoor patio, enjoyed an Allison Spritz, and celebrated the legacy of Allison Lake.

WCA sent Allison off with a bang, with a wonderful performance from the drum corps of the White Plains Youth Bureau who marched throughout the ballroom. What followed were heartfelt speeches: Board members such as Kelli Galloway, Robin Williams, and Board President Ann Umemoto; past staff members such as former Program & Policy Associate Sarah Yergeau, and former WCA Executive Director Cora Greenberg; and, community partners such as Frank Williams, Executive Director of White Plains Youth Bureau. They all spoke about the incredible career of service Allison has led, and the legacy she leaves behind. To conclude, Allison gave her reflection of her time at WCA, and the road of advocacy which still lies ahead.

To quote Ina Potter, whose poem “Beatitudes of a Leader” was read onstage by WCA Board Member Robin Williams, “Blessed is she who stands staunchly for what she believes. For she will have peace of mind.” To Allison, we thank you for always standing staunchly in your belief that the children of Westchester should be able to grow up healthy, safe, and prepared for life’s challenges regardless of race or zip code. The team at Westchester Children’s Association promises to carry on your legacy of advocacy!

WCA would also like to thank all those attended the event and all those who placed an ad in the Legacy Album. Thank you to New York elected officials who issued proclamations in honor of Allison, and who attended or sent a delegate from their office, including: Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins; County Legislator Jewel Williams Johnson; County Legislator Ben Boykin; Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins; State Senator Shelley Mayer; State Senator Pete Harckham; Assemblymember MaryJane Shimsky; Congressman Mike Lawler; Congressman George Latimer; Senator Chuck Schumer; and, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Thank you to all sponsors who made the event possible, including the Elias Foundation, the Hudson Road Foundation, The Children’s Village, Westchester Medical Center, Harry PR, and more! The full list of sponsors can be found below.

With Allison’s retirement, WCA has launched the Allison Lake Action Fund to support the future of children’s advocacy. Every donation made to the fund will go towards expanding WCA’s data operations, allowing the organization to keep an even closer eye on the day-to-day issues affecting the county’s youth. Please join our growing list of Founding Donors, and donate to the Fund here!

On a final note, July 1st, 2025, will be “Allison Lake Day” in Westchester County, and will be displayed on the marquee outside of the Westchester County Center on that day. Thank you again to Legislator Jewel Williams Johnson for making Allison Lake Day a reality. Please help us celebrate Allison one last time!
