Increasing public discussion about the Raise the Age campaign to treat 16 and 17 year olds as juveniles in the justice system means that this issue is no longer just a topic of conversation for child advocates and the legal world. WCA was honored to be invited to share our perspective on Richard French Live on March 20, 2015.
“There is a push in New York State, known as “Raise The Age,” which calls to stop the prosecution of 16 and 17-year-old offenders as adults. The campaign proposes that offenders under the age of 18 be treated as juveniles.”
Westchester Children’s Association’s Deputy Director, Allison Lake, was joined by Christian Philemon and Jermaine McCloud of the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester. The Youth Shelter is Westchester’s only alternative to jail for young male offenders, offering them rehabilitative services and the support they need for a fresh start in life.
