Keeping Teens Out of Prison

Although Raise the Age‬ reforms were not passed during this legislative session, Westchester Children’s Association remains committed to seeing this important issue through to the end.

In the Fios1 News segment below, our own Deputy Director, Allison Lake, shares about Governor Cuomo’s commitment to raising the age of adult criminal responsibility to 18. In the coming weeks, WCA will hold the governor to his promise of prioritizing Raise the Age reforms – for the sake of our youth, and for our communities’ safety.

Also featured in the video are our partners at the Youth Shelter Program of Westchester. WCA is proud of the work the Youth Shelter Program is doing to help teens turn their lives around – and we hope that some day soon, all 16 and 17 year olds in Westchester, and throughout New York, will receive that same rehabilitative support.
