Father’s Day Facts [Infographic]

With Father’s Day coming up on June 15th, we want to share a fun infographic with you about Westchester County dads and their children. Some of you are thinking, “Oh no! Father’s Day is this week? I completely forgot!” Well, let this serve as your reminder that you still have a couple of days left to join the 64% of Americans who will give Dad a card!

More than that, we hope this infographic leads you into a fun and interesting exploration of fatherhood in Westchester. Many studies highlight the important role that fathers and father-figures play in their children’s development and well-being. So we’d like to salute the married dads, single dads, grandfathers, foster dads, uncles, and other men who are stepping up to take care of the children in their lives.

Single dads, in comparison to two-parent families, face a heightened challenge in raising children, as you’ll see in some of the economic stats below. Since the Children By the Numbers blog launched after Mother’s Day this year, we’re also thinking about sharing some more data on single moms in the future (Psst! Let us know if you’re interested in seeing that). For now, enjoy learning more about Westchester fathers, and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

All sources are listed at the bottom of the infographic, but we’d like to point out that although we’ve referred to “single dads” and “single moms” in many of the statistics below, the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey data we’ve used captures data on single male/female heads of households with children under 18. This means that grandparents, uncles/aunts, foster parents, or other individuals who are both single and taking care of children are also included in many of these figures.
