Economic and Demographic Data from the 2008-2012 American Community Survey

We’ve taken data from the 2008-2012 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates and created this interactive map for you. You can explore selected demographic and economic data for Westchester communities by clicking on the red dot in the middle of each municipality.

This map has information about:

  • Income
  • Poverty Rates
  • Unemployment Rates
  • Age and Race Demographics

When you look at the data for the municipality where you live or work, does it surprise you, discourage/encourage you, or raise questions? Share in the comments below.

NOTE: Westchester County has some pretty crazy municipal borders that will, on occasion, overlap in strange and odd ways. Most people living in Westchester know that the zip code and school district borders often bear no relation to municipal borders.

We may, if there’s enough interest in this matter, go into excruciating detail about how these wacky borders make things interesting for us at WCA. In the meantime, we decided to use the municipal borders as determined by Westchester County Geographic Information Systems, the county government department of all things GIS, to decide borders, because they aligned more often than not with the municipal borders as determined by the US Census/American Community Survey. In cases where they didn’t, we’ve included a note in the information window.
