A Timeline of the Raise the Age Campaign

We’ve waited long enough.

In June, despite widespread public support, New York State elected officials failed to reach an agreement about how to raise the age of criminal responsibility. As a result, New York remains one of only two states that automatically treat 16 and 17 year olds as adults in the justice system – despite the fact that most states set the age of criminal responsibility at 18 in the 1940s!

Our new infographic traces the Raise the Age campaign from its early roots to the present day.

We’ve come a long way together, but there is still work to do!
